On February 22, the Livingstone Foundation held its second charity dinner with the aim of raising funds for its educational project “Kapital School,” its vocational training center “Chikowa,” and the financing of well drilling in remote villages in Zambia. During the dinner, which was attended by more than 200 guests, the fundraising goals were achieved thanks to the auction of artwork donated by artists and signed sports memorabilia.
The Foundation was created in 2014 and its main objective is to improve education in sub-Saharan African countries in close collaboration with NGOs in each geographical area. This cause is supported by Livingstone Partners, an independent international investment banking firm.
During this time, the Foundation has built a school in Zambia to replace another that collapsed—leaving 150 children without classrooms—and now provides classes to more than 400 children. It currently has several active programs at this school, such as funding teachers, innovative tutoring systems, and access to secondary education for talented children. The organization has also begun to fund a vocational training center in various fields such as agriculture, mechanics, carpentry, and construction.
The Foundation is also currently working on a program for managing and accessing drinking water, opening a preschool at the school in Zambia, and planting trees as a critical element of sustainability at the vocational school. An additional new initiative is to develop classes on the importance of the environment and animal protection in the area.
Neil Collen, founding partner of the Livingstone Foundation, said: “The funds raised have exceeded our expectations and will enable us to finance these new projects. We are very proud of the progress our Foundation has made. Together with Livingstone Partners, our regular sponsors, and the generosity of many of the people who joined us yesterday, we will be able to continue our work in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
About the Livingstone Foundation:
The Livingstone Foundation began in 2013 when Livingstone Partners, an independent international investment banking firm, decided to support improvements in education in Sub-Saharan African countries.
Its main mission is to help communities in rural areas, either by building or rebuilding schools or by providing educational support. It works with local organizations, offering financial support for their projects with primary and secondary schools, as well as vocational schools.
